About This Show

Set in sultry Tampa during the year 1929, Anna in the Tropics tells the story of Cubans living in this country and practicing their art of rolling cigars by hand but facing the onslaught of modern technology that threatens to render their craft obsolete. When the wife of the factory owner hires a lector, as was traditional in the Cuban factories, to read to the workers, their lives begin to mirror and to be affected by the novel he chooses, Leo Tolstoy’s classic Anna Karenina.
