Women’s American ORT presents Phyllis Newman, award-winning entertainer, as the
featured speaker at its Lunch and Lecture event.
Ms. Newman has starred on Broadway, on television and in films. She won a Tony for her role in Subways Are For Sleeping, and was nominated for her role as the aunt in
Broadway Bound. On television, Ms. Newman was a frequent panelist on “What’s My Line?,” “I’ve Got a Secret,” and “To Tell the Truth,” and was the first woman to serve as
guest host on the Johnny Carson Show. Currently she is appearing on A & E’s “100 Centre Street” and HBO’s Oz series.
In addition to her acting career, Ms. Newman is a published author, having written Just in Time: Notes From My Life (Simon and Schuster), a powerful account of her struggle with breast cancer. Ms. Newman also created the Newman
Women’s Health Initiative, an organization that covers a wide range of health-related concerns of women.
