Grandchildren of the Buffalo Soldiers

About the Show

In the poignant new play Grandchildren of the Buffalo Soldiers by noted Assiniboine writer William Yellow Robe, Jr., an emotional tinderbox threatens to ignite. Craig Robe returns home to a Montana reservation after a decade, confronting the same divisive racial issues that forced him to leave. Descended from a Native grandmother and African-American grandfather — one of the famous “Buffalo Soldiers” sent to fight Indians in the post-Civil War period — Robe and his family have long been marginalized in their Native community. Considered too Black to be Native, they must wrestle with prejudice on the ‘rez’ and soul-searing questions of identity that drive a wedge between brothers.
