Imbued with poetry and visual power, rich imagery and electrifying intensity, Uttar-Priyadarshi is a panoramic meditation on war and peace by Ratan Thiyam, one of the most important theater makers in the international performance arena. The piece centers on the Emperor Ashoka’s conversion to nonviolence and Buddhism when faced with the horror of destruction wrought by War. It is performed in the Manipuri language Mei-tei with English subtitles. The Chorus Repertory Theatre of Manipur, India brings this production to Minneapolis as part of its long-awaited USA debut tour.
There is a pre-performance “World Party” at 5:30pm featuring performance, cultural displays, creative hands-on activities, and “Insight” discussions. The party is free for ticket holders, and great ethnic food is available for purchase.
