Adventures on the fortepiano with Daniel Adam Maltz

About the Show

Before the advent of the modern piano, there was the fortepiano. This is the instrument that Beethoven, Mozart and other composers of the Classical period performed on, but it is rarely seen today. What did it sound like?

Daniel Adam Maltz is a fortepianist based in Vienna, Austria. He specializes in the First Viennese School — Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, and Schubert.
He made his Carnegie Hall (Weill) debut at age 22 and is a sought-after soloist, chamber musician, and clinician. Daniel studied historical performance at the Royal Academy of Music in London and the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna.
Daniel is devoted to performing on Viennese fortepianos — utilizing the vast range of tones and colors familiar to the composers. He brings his expertise in the Viennese sound, culture, philosophies, and performance practices of the Classical era to his interpretations.
