About the Show

Part concert, part puppet show, part ghost story. This 50-minute multimedia performance reimagines classic literary monsters through queer, musical shadow theater. Join ensemble Shadow, Sound, Spectacle at the Newton Free Library (330 Homer Street, Newton, MA) for a fresh perspective on the works of Edgar Allen Poe, Mary Shelley, Emily Dickinson, Anne Rice, and others, told through live music, shadow puppetry, video, and narrative. All are welcome, but recommended for adults and teens. Q&A to follow. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Newton Cultural Council, a local council that is supported by the Mass Cultural Council and the City of Newton. Founded in 2023, Shadow, Sound, Spectacle unites three artists working at the intersection of puppetry, music, and storytelling: Jess Martin (singer-songwriter and storyteller); Amy West (puppeteer); and Abby Hanna (cinematographer, musician, and puppeteer).
