The Merry Wives of Windsor

He might have called it Falstaff in Love. Queen Elizabeth begged her illustrious playwright for a romantic comedy about Sir John Falstaff, her favorite clown. What could Shakespeare do but oblige, with this laugh-out-loud adventure? Fed up with Falstaff’s flirtations, two merry wives (and their maid, naturally!), concoct an elaborate scheme to drive him (and their husbands!) wild with jealousy. Meanwhile, sweet young Anne struggles to sidestep two ridiculous suitors to follow her own heart. In a frenzy of courtships, with plenty of dirty laundry on display, old Falstaff learns his lesson the hard way in this lusty, jubilant romp.
