Elaine Stritch At Liberty

About the Show

The Provincetown Theatre Company in association with Shawn Nightingale Productions presents Elaine Stritch At Liberty (In Concert). This powerhouse of a show traces a career full of highs and lows, including: alcoholism, failed love affairs, and stunning triumphs. It tells the story of Broadway itself, hilarious and tragic stories of Stritch’s friends of the stage and screen; Marlon Brando, Noel Coward, Ethel Merman, Stephen Sondheim, Rock Hudson, Richard Burton and Vivien Leigh.

The show also features Stritch’s one of a kind renditions of songs such as: “The Ladies Who Lunch,” “Broadway Baby,” and “I’m Still Here.” Developed with Elaine Stritch by New York theater critic John Lahr and originally directed by George C. Wolfe, At Liberty ran on Broadway and then in London in 2002, followed by an extensive tour. The show received a Tony Award for Best Theatrical Special Event, as well as two Drama Desk Awards, for Outstanding Solo Performance for Stritch, and Outstanding Book of a Musical, for Stritch and Lahr. Rob Bowman joins Ms. Stritch as pianist and conductor.

“The elements of classic romance are all in place for this thrilling production: a star, a stage and an audience, all gaga for one another.” — The New York Times

“Utterly sensational. Poignant and screamingly funny. An evening people will be talking about for years to come.” — The Washington Post
