Director Michael Tritto, Jr. chose Beyond The Horizon to honor the upcoming 90th Anniversary of the beginning of Eugene O’Neill’s legendary playwriting career in Provincetown. Written in 1920, it won him the first of four Pulitzer Prizes. Set on a New England farm, Beyond The Horizon embodies the youthful dilemna between pursuing one’s dreams or responding to the lures of romance.
Tritto was drawn to O’Neill’s depiction of a youthful love triangle, which breaks a family’s natural order. The play depicts the lure of the sea and adventure in the larger world to tempt rural people to leave theirchildhood homes. This is a familiar experience for native Cape Codders. Sponsored in part by NAPI’S Restaurant, Provincetown. This production is co-produced by Cape Cod Community College and Payomet Performing Arts Center In Truro.
