About the Show

A wine and cheese reception is included with admission. In its latest installment, Heidi Duckler Collage Dance Theatre’s multimedia dance theatre work, A Guide to an Exhibitionist is performed at Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions (LACE). Live performers in an oversized frame expose the mysteries of the nude, the action of still life and the kaleidoscope of color field. The intimate relationship between artist and onlooker forms the basis of this work which is narrated on audioguide. This latest installment of the Duckler sisters’ aesthetic hangs in the balance between beauty and disturbance.

Widely regarded as a leading exponent of site-specific dance theatre, Collage Dance Theatre takes its themes from public and historic spaces such as the Ambassador Hotel, the Herald Examiner building, a Laundromat, a gas station, the Los Angeles River among others. Interested in creating works that explore the vast under-realized potential that a space has for movement and meaning, CDT approaches architectural and culturally significant sites and creates multidisciplinary dance works that animate space in unexpected ways.

CDT Artistic Director and Choreographer Heidi Duckler, since founding Collage Dance Theatre in 1985, has choreographed over 50 original performances throughout Southern California, New York City, Las Vegas, Miami, Portland and Hong Kong. Awards include the California Choreography Fellowship from the California Arts Council, City of Los Angeles Artists Fellowship, three Irvine/DanceUSA Dance in California grants, and the Lester Horton Award for Outstanding Achievement in Choreography.

This project was funded in part by the Department of Cultural Affairs, City of Los Angeles.
