About This Show

Back by popular demand, Nick Dear’s new version of Maxim Gorky’s 1904 play remains socially relevant winning Trevor Nunn the Evening Standard Award in 1999 for Best Director. This great ensemble piece, set in the early 1900’s, is about a diverse group of Russians on their annual summer holiday. As political change is in the air, some are frightened and angry while some yearn for a new life. Scandals, affairs and arguments break out, as the characters question the value of their lives.
