About the Show
Join us for January's edition of 'Foreign Fridays with Jamison'!
Fun fact! From early June 2009 to late June 2020 I lived in South Korea. How I got there is a wild and fascinating story, but after obtaining my graduate degree I got a job teaching English and I moved to a country I knew very little about at the time. Over the course of my year there, I fell in love with Korean culture, history, the language, its people, and the food! I also discovered the incredibly rich world of Korean cinema. Over the last few years, thanks to the works of Bong Joon-ho, Park Chan-wook, and Lee Chang-dong, among others, so has the world!
So for my January selection I wanted to pick a film that would also allow me to speak to the specifics of a country I fell head over heels for. While many people are perhaps familiar with Seoul, the country's capital, the city of Suwon, where this movie is set, is less known; yet it happens to be the city I called home for the entirety of my time living in Asia. After the film I will be happy to lead a discussion of the movie, but also share my experiences, as well as contextualize the culture the movie explores, and even offer as recommendations some of my favorite Korean films.
So mark your calendars for Friday, January 9th at 7:00pm – I can't wait to see you all at the ACME!
