Her groundbreaking book Silent Spring shocked America back to Walden Pond and Carson’s testimony before the President’s Science Advisory Committee helped lead to the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency.
The journey of the play takes Rachel Carson to a crossroads where her own life intersects with a fantastical landscape enlivened by literary, film and cultural references that theatricalize the revolutionary science of Silent Spring. Actor’s Guild of Lexington is proud to present the professional premiere of this imaginative production. In the Garden of Live Flowers has been awarded the Kennedy Center/ATHE David Mark Cohen National Playwriting Award and an Honorable Mention in the Jane Chambers Playwriting Award competition honoring women playwrights and feminist plays.
