Dedicated To Emmitt Till…, by Christopher Benson and Resident Playwright David Barr III, is the heartbreaking story of Mamie Till-Mobley, the mother of Emmitt Till, a 14 year old African American boy from Chicago who was murdered for allegedly whistling at a local white woman during a visit to Mississippi.
Based on the book Death of Innocence: The Story of the Hate Crime That Changed America by Mamie Till-Mobley and Christopher Benson, Dedicated To Emmitt Till… is the mother’s recollection of her fight for understanding, clarity and absolution in a world where she knows justice for her son will never come. Time is running out as she struggles to preserve the only thing she has left – her compelling story.
Presented as part of The Saturday Series of staged readings and discussions of plays in progress.
