Miriam Buddwing is having a hard time celebrating her birthday this year. Her eldest son Doug is a cop with an itchy trigger finger, her younger son Will is a poet who prefers the woods, and her teenage daughter Sannie has just dumped out all the vodka. Add to that a husband dying too slowly in the next room and an unexpected visit from the estate lawyer and you have The Ordinary Yearnings of Miriam Buddwing. In this new comedy commissioned by Steppenwolf Theatre, playwright Alexandra Gersten-Vassilaros lets loose on marriage, motherhood, and the ties that bind.
