New York City
Northlight concludes its 2000-2001 season with The Last Five Years. Jason Robert Brown’s newest work is an intimate, romantic, two-person musical about a nice Jewish boy and a good Irish-Catholic girl in New York City who fall in love and fall apart during a five-year courtship. The woman, Kathleen, begins at the end of the relationship while the man, Jamie, starts at the beginning. Only once do they sing together: during the wedding in the middle of the play. By turns wildly funny and crushingly sad, this powerful musical navigates the minefields of contemporary love and marriage through the soulful, soaring music and lyrics of Brown. Norbert Butz and Lauren Kennedy star.
