The House of Blue Leaves

About the Show

Shattered Globe Theatre presents John Guare’s The House of Blue Leaves, directed by Ann Filmer.

Stuck playing dive bars in 1965 Queens, middle-aged zookeeper Artie Shaughnessy dreams of finding fame and fortune as a composer for Hollywood movies. However, on this particular day chasing stardom is the least of Artie’s concerns. His mistress Bunny has refused to cook for him until they are married; his mentally ill wife is being particularly eccentric; and most alarmingly, his AWOL son Ronnie is plotting to assassinate the visiting Pope. When the starlet girlfriend of an old acquaintance makes a surprise visit, Artie glimpses a golden opportunity to leave his troubles behind him. But with a trio of crazed nuns on the loose, the police on his doorstep, and time ticking away, he finds that the chaos is only just beginning. Under the direction of Chicago favorite Ann Filmer, the outrageous ingredients in Guare’s comedy of misplaced ambition are certain to prove explosive.
