Court Theater completes its season with the American premiere of Trevor Griffith’s tribute to Anton Chekhov’s style of comic tragedy. Piano is based on the film Unfinished Piece for Mechanical Piano by A. Adabashyan and N. Mikhalkov. It is a poignant look at the painful recognition of one’s own mediocrity. A series of alternately amusing and heartbreaking love triangles are at the center of this piece, questioning the boundaries of both fidelity and social class. While a middle-aged protagonist is in the throes of a mid-life crisis and despair, it is the peasants who ultimately remind us that “everything’s possible.” Charles Newell directs.
This play runs in rotating repertory with Twelfth Night.
