Featuring a mix of seasoned iO and Second City performers, Japanese Harold is a long-form improvised show that explores the complexities of interpersonal relationships. With a minimalist approach to the more traditional “Harold” format, the Promise Keepers present scenes that are patient and intense, and often as touching as they may be funny. These scense are interspersed with short, dreamlike pastiches. The name “Japanese Harold” refers to the emphasis on physical space, intricate details, and patience.
“Quality improv… rewarding. The four-person ensemble is patient and not obsessively concerned with filling the air with dialogue or going for the obvious funny. That said, these are witty performers with a taste for the silly.” – Chicago Tribune
“Art-house improv… with their quasi-mystical ‘Japanese’ aesthetic, minimalist pacing and blocking, and character-driven humor, the expert Promise Keepers mold the paradigmatic Harold to their sophisticated sensibilities… kinky and seductively offbeat.” – Chicago Reader
Japanese Harold features: Tim Baltz, Katy Fullan, Ben Johnson, Holly Laurent and Chris Lee.
