Theatre Seven of Chicago kicks off its inaugural season with Is Chicago, an evening of two one-act plays set in the same Chicago neighborhood thirty years apart.
David Mamet’s Sexual Perversity in Chicago concerns the budding romance of two young singles who are unsure of how to find a mate, confused about how to keep one, and poisoned by the selfish posturing of their best friends.
After intermission, the same actors perform the world premiere of Marisa Wegrzynâ’s Diversey Harbor. Set in the same Lakeview/Lincoln Park neighborhood central to Mamet’s work, Diversey Harbor features four Chicagoans reflecting on one bitter December night. Puzzle pieces come together as each character tells his or her part of the story, and the audience slowly learns how and why a girl was found floating face down in the Harbor.
