A Piece of My Heart

A Piece of My Heart is a powerful drama centering on six of the 11,000 women who served in various capacities during the Vietnam War…and the lasting impact of their experience. The playwright, Shirley Lauro, interweaves verbatim excerpts from the experiences of real women into a compelling drama. We learn how the lives of these women and others like them were profoundly affected by their participation in Vietnam, whether as military or medical personnel, Red Cross workers or entertainers. The U.S. government and population at large refused for years to acknowledge the importance of their service in Vietnam, how they gave hope to and saved the lives of servicemen and civilians alike. The military didn’t even keep record of how many women served. This beautifully crafted play gives us a glimpse into the action, night-life, courage and emotions they experienced, as well as their lives as Vietnam.
