The folks at Hartford Stage provided rhyming couplets to describe The Learned Ladies of Park Avenue — David Grimm’s translation and adaptation of Molière’s Les Femmes savantes, directed by Michael Wilson — which is opening in the company’s fall season:
“Writer Grimm’s commission from Hartford Stage
Was to bring Molière into Cole Porter’s Jazz Age.
Dicky wants to marry Betty, but her mother’s plan
Is for Betty to wed a most pompous man.
Will reason, greed or true love win the day?
Sparkling wit and laughter fill this comic play.”
