About This Show

The Hartford Stage presents Shakespeare’s Othello . The time: 1964. The place: a loading dock on Kinsley Street. The curtain rises on a group of actors performing Hartford Stage’s first ever production–Shakespeare’s Othello. Over forty years since our first production and four centuries after it was written, we revisit this classic tragedy. Othello, a powerful military leader, has fallen into a rapturous love with the beautiful Desdemona. When Othello selects Cassio for a higher office, the duplicitous and conniving Iago decides to sour their passion to avenge his own thwarted ambitions. This shattering drama of sexual jealousy, power and deceit features one of Shakespeare’s most potent clashes between ardor and evil.

Directed by renowned Shakespeare interpreter Karin Coonrod.
