About This Show

The Hartford Stage presents Crowns written and directed by Regina Taylor. Storytelling, soaring gospel hymns, gut-bucket Rhythm and Blues and hats – the glorious crowns that celebrate life, loss and African-American women’s “hattitude.” Yolanda, a tough street kid from Brooklyn, is being packed off to visit with her relatives in the South. Upon her arrival, she receives a first-class education in self-dignity from her grandmother, her church lady friends and their unbelievable collection of opulent hats.
