This show is touring metro area schools during February to celebrate Black History Month.
Written and directed by Theatre Gael’s Artistic Director, John Stephens, The Boy Who Would Be King reveals the dreams and ideals of a very ordinary boy who went on to become an extraordinary man.
It is early evening on April 4, 1968. A tired, discouraged Martin Luther King returns to his Atlanta childhood home where his room and its memories seem to revitalize him. From this familiar setting he shares the recollections of his boyhood – memories of his family, the seminal influence of his father, Martin Luther King, Sr., the neighborhoods surrounding Sweet Auburn and of the early experiences that shaped his life and ministry.
The play provides young audiences with an understanding of the extraordinary legacy of a man whose life and work set in motion events that changed America.
