Peter and the Wolf

About the Show

In 1936, the U.S.S.R.’s Central Children’s Theatre asked Sergei Prokofiev to compose a new symphony to “cultivate musical tastes in children from the first years of school.” In the span of just four days, Prokofiev wrote a symphonic masterpiece that continues to delight audiences of all ages. Compassion, loyalty and bravery persevere as young Peter takes on the role of hero and saves his animal friends from a big bad wolf. Each character is represented by an instrument – Peter by the violin, his grandfather by a gruff bassoon, and his animal friends by the flute, clarinet and oboe – in this Russian classic that introduces youngsters to the orchestra.
