About the Show

Over 15,000 Jewish children passed through the Holocaust camp, Terezin, from 1942 to 1945. Behind the barbed wire, Irena Synkova created a little world of laughter and hope as she educated young people through creative writing and art. There were no butterflies at Terezin; but for the children, butterflies became a symbol of defiance making it possible for them to express themselves and dream of the future. This story based on truth, celebrates both her life and the children she served.
