About This Show

Long Wharf Theatre will hold a workshop presentation of Karla, a new play by former PBS co-anchor Robert MacNeil. This play is based on the case of Karla Faye Tucker, who was convicted of murder and executed at the State Prison in Huntsville, Texas in February of 1998. Last-minute pleas for clemency sparked a nation-wide political debate on capital punishment, and left many citizens wondering if the authorities were justified in carrying out her sentence. Journalist, novelist, and playwright Robert MacNeil was inspired by this controversial event to write Karla as an examination of the conflict between justice and humanity.
