Yellowman

Curious Theatre Company concludes its highly successful 2003-4 Season with the Regional Premiere of the searing intra-racial drama Yellowman by Dael Orlandersmith. This riveting two-actor drama was a finalist for the 2002 Pulitzer Prize, and was named as one of the ten “Best Plays of 2002-3” by the American Theatre Critics/Steinberg New Play Awards and Citations competition.

Alma, a dark-skinned black woman, and Eugene, a light-skinned black man, grow up together yearning to escape the American South. When their friendship turns to love, the different colors of their skin raise obstacles that become insurmountable. The play examines how the sins of the past become the legacy of the future and the harsh realities of internal racism, exploring the complexities of love, race, and geography.
