Puritans and overly sober people beware! In Twelfth Night, the lords of misrule are afoot in the form of fat Sir Toby Belch and his comrades. Carnival celebrations everywhere feature the figure of Folly — a gross character given to drink, food and fooling, who in overindulgence brings balance to an overly serious world. (It’s no surprise then that the play was probably written for a London winter carnival season.)
