New York City
What better way to celebrate than by joining The Oldest Established Permanent Floating Crap Game in New York? What better company than Nathan Detroit, Sky Masterson, Nicely Nicely, the mission doll Sarah Brown and poor sweet Adelaide? Not even Lieutenant Brennigan can break up the party in this most splendid, most terrific, most American of all musicals. Murray Ross directs.
The musical is based on the stories of Damon Runyon, the self-appointed chronicler of colorful New York life in and around Times Square. Runyon apprenticed in Pueblo, Colorado, and developed his famous style while writing for the Pueblo newspaper — which makes Guys and Dolls a great American musical with a real Colorado connection.
Frank Loesser wrote the music and lyrics, one wonderful and memorable tune after another, including, “I’ve Never Been in Love Before,” “I’ll Know When My Love Comes Along,” “Fugue for Tinhorns,” “Guys and Dolls,” “Bushel and a Peck,” and the show stopping revival number, “Sit Down, You’re Rocking the Boat.”
