About This Show

Duality: Two One-Acts includes People Merely Players and A Farewell Echo, both of which explore themes of predestination, free will, and perceptions of truth.

People Merely Players focuses on two characters, Nicholas and Geoffrey, struggling to understand their power within a seemingly determined world. As they try to sustain life as they know it in their small printing shop, the story carries them to an unexpected and uniquely clever conclusion. With a sense of irony, humor, and literary prose, playwright Matthew Sauer brings to light the philosophic nature of human experience.

In A Farewell Echo Sauer tackles similar issues from a different perspective. With classical characters such as Narcissus, Echo, Pyramus, Aphrodite, and Eros, Sauer weaves a mythical tale of unrequited love and desperation. Written in iambic pentameter the story unfolds with musical elegance and poetic artistry. Both one-act plays build upon Riddlemark’s mission to bring classical-style theatre and epic storytelling to a contemporary audience.
