Playwright/soloist Brenda Wong Aoki and Composer/jazz musician Mark present a true story of forbidden love. Uncle Gunjiro’s Girlfriend is the historic account of California’s first inter-racial marriage between a Japanese man, a Samurai, and a Caucasian, the daughter of the Archdeacon of Grace Cathedral. Told thru story, music and archival photos, this is a tale of two distinguished families torn apart and reduced to poverty by prejudice but ultimately sustained and transformed by love.
