The Eyes of Babylon is the story of Jeff Key’s personal struggles trying to reconcile being part of a war that he knows to be illegal and immoral and a profound commitment to the reasons he became a Marine. Key begins his tale (taken directly from his diaries) on the morning of September 11, 2001 when he gets a call from his mother expressing her concern that the young Marine will have to fight overseas, through his tour in Iraq and the adults, children and animals he meets there. Upon his return to America after his tour of duty, he received an administrative discharge because he declared his homosexuality. He then began a life of political activism and philanthropy. More the story of a psychological and emotional journey culminating in spiritual epiphany than a documentation of the war, this piece is a profoundly personal look inside the conscience of a man faced with near impossible decisions. Yuval Hadadi directs.
