Ocatvio Solis’ The Ballad of Pancho and Lucy is inspired by newspaper accounts of a Latino Bonnie and Clyde couple who went on a crime spree in the late 80s and early 90s robbing Mission District bars and nightclubs until they were finally caught taking a cab as a getaway car. Solis has worked with the ensemble and design team to develop the play by visiting the original neighborhood locations and gathering and re-imagining the seedy late night stories, songs, heartbreaks, and crimes that brew in the underworld. Set in one of these same Mission District watering holes, Solis orchestrates a raucous all-nighter inspired by the songs and stories of local legend.
