New York City
The producer of Kung Pao Kosher Comedy brings you The 10th Anniversary of Funny Girlz: A Smorgasbord of Women Comedians — a (day before) Mother’s Day comedy show benefiting The Bay Area Women’s and Children’s Center (the beneficiary of The First Annual Funny Girlz show in 1999)!
This annual comedy celebration features a diverse line-up of internationally, nationally, and locally known funny female comedians and humorists — British/Nigerian, African American, Asian American, Jewish, lesbian, straight, a drag queen… Funny Girlz was born in 1999 when comic/comedy producer, Lisa Geduldig, began taking inventory of the number of women booked at mainstream comedy clubs. Even in 2008 the numbers are still minimal, though there is certainly no shortage of funny female comics out there. 50 weeks out of the year the line up at San Francisco’s mainstream comedy club consists of 3 male comics. There are 2 to 3 women who get booked at the clubs each year during those remaining two weeks. Thus, Funny Girlz was created to celebrate and showcase the plethora of funny women on the comedy circuit.
