New York City
The SF Buffoons present an original Gold Rush Adventure play, Spunk.
Set at the euphoric opening of the San Francisco Gold Rush in 1849, this adventure play follows a dandy, a sneak thief, and a beautiful ship’s boy as they hustle to get rich quick by any means necessary. Amidst the largest migration in world history (which included almost no women!) this uninhibited trio quickly descends into a world of vice and violence, a world where they may just have to sacrifice their dreams in order to survive.
The all male cast utilize a hybrid buffoon technique codified from years of street shows and influenced by Commedia, Mummer parades and Lords of Misrule rituals to stage an outlandish Gold Rush San Francisco never imagined until now, rife with drama, debauch, vulgarity, cross dressing, and skin.
