Othello

Impact Theatre continues its 9th season with a newly reimagined, daring and incisive Othello, directed by Melissa Hillman, whose bold and bloody Macbeth last season played to sold-out houses night after night. Othello is a dark-skinned African-American lesbian whose battlefield genius has earned her a position of power within the American military. Iago is a light-skinned African-American ensign whose ability to please and assimilate has won him the nickname “Honest Iago.” but whose rage, jealousy, and thirst for power bubble just beneath the surface. Controversy begins when Othello first promotes the inexperienced Cassio over Iago and then elopes with the beautiful young daughter of a conservative senator. When the troops are sent overseas, Iago begins a course of action that will tear Othello’s world apart — but at what price?
