About the Show

The Willows Theatre Company presents Gypsy, the Arthur Laurents/Jule Styne/Stephen Sondheim 1959 musical based on striptease artist Gypsy Rose Lee. The Willow’s production stars Broadway veteran Mary Bracken Phillips in the role of Mama Rose, the fiercely ambitious show business mother who pushes her two daughters up the ruggard road toward stardom. The exciting (and sometimes seedy) panorama of vaudeville and burlesque in its Depression-era heyday is the background of Gypsy, and the action takes place in the theaters and dingy hotels populated by show folks during that time. The score is filled with musical theater standards such as “Let Me Entertain You” and “Everything’s Coming Up Roses.”

Richard T. Hudson directs and choreographs, with musical direction by Andrew Holtz.
