Marin Theatre Company opens its 2004-2005 season with the world premiere of Beggar’s Holiday, a play which has not been produced since 1946 when it enjoyed 111 performances on Broadway. The original script has been updated and rewritten by author Dale Wasserman (Man of LaMancha, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest) and features a rich score by Duke Ellington and original lyrics by John Latouche (Cabin in the Sky, The Golden Apple, Candide and other Broadway hits). The musical depicts the dream of a blind beggar who becomes the charismatic leader of a group of thieves and women on the waterfront of an American city. MTC Artistic Director Lee Sankowich directs with choreography by Richard Gibbs.
