About the Show
Intimate Apparel, by Lynn Nottage, is an elegant portrait of a black seamstress. The time is 1905, the place New York City. Esther lives in a boarding house for women and sews intimate apparel for clients who range from wealthy white patrons to prostitutes. She is torn between her love for a charismatic Caribbean man who helped dig the Panama Canal and a Hassidic shopkeeper. Delicia Turner Sonnenberg directs.
