Alec navigates the rough waters between adolescence and adulthood in Richard Markgraf’s Before/After. The play begins in 1962–a period of American innocence, and runs through 1967–a time of military escalation in the Vietnam War. From the break-up of his parents’ marriage to a foiled attempt at first seduction, a narrow escape from a zoo’s wolf pit to a battle with the school bully, everyman Alec weaves in and out of reality, wielding his pen when times get confusing–which is nearly always. Katie Rodda directs.
