An eerie, suspenseful, adaptation of Susan Hill’s ghost story, The Woman in Black is the story of a Victorian lawyer who continues to be haunted by events that occured 30 years ago. In an attempt to exorcise his past, he hires a young actor to retell his horror.
First presented in London’s West End, The Woman in Black receives a different spin on its traditional staging. Says Co-op director Gary Reed, “The play is generally presented on a proscenium stage which creates a line between the audience and the action of the play. Because the Crossley Theatre has a thrust black box stage we have the ability to bring the audience closer to the action and in effect place them onstage in the environment of the play […] Instead of sound coming from right or left, or front and back, the sound design will be done in a circular way with […] the possibility of a circular motion affect.”
