New Village Arts Theatre presents Kenneth Lonergan’s The Waverly Gallery. The play, a finalist for the 2001 Pulitzer Prize, is an autobiographical comic drama about Gladys Green, a feisty art dealer in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village who finds herself being forced to surrender her gallery when concerns are voiced regarding her ability to run the business in the light of her advancing age. The play explores her fight to retain her independence and the subsequent effect of her decline on her family, especially her grandson. More than a memory play, The Waverly Gallery captures the humor and strength of a family in the face of crisis.
