Pianist Nicky Lancaster brings his fiancee home to introduce her to his mother, Florence, a famous stage actress, during a weekend when she is entertaining friends and hangers-on. Nicky is horrified to discover that Florence publicly flaunts her much younger lover, who is the same age as Nicky. Jealous for his mother’s attention, Nicky exposes Florence’s boy-toy for the shallow cad he is and sets in motion a vortex of bitter recrimination and ugly truths that reveal Nicky and Florence for who they really are.
