The Gifts Of The Magi, a delightful present and heart-warming musical for the entire family to enjoy, returns to Los Angeles this holiday season.
Produced by John Woll and Reggie De Leon, and based on the O.Henry short story, Magi is written by Mark St. Germain with music by Randy Courts. Director and Choreographer John Woll is at the helm.
It is Christmas in New York, but for two young lovers, Jim and Della, the prospects are bleak. Both are out of work and penniless. However, they each experience such a strong urge to give something of meaning to the other that they both part with their most prized possessions (she her beautiful long hair and he his heirloom pocket watch) to buy presents for each other, creating an aura of warmth and giving in the cold winter city.
In addition to their story we see glimpses of various city folk (played by the same two performers) involved in the usual holiday bustle, and “Soapy”, a cheerful bum who wants only to get arrested so he can spend the night in a cozy cell. The story is gracefully enhanced by tuneful songs and neatly tied together by a newsboy-narrator, Willy, who adds his own contributions and insightful observations to this delightful parable.
