Though Spin uses the political arena to explore how power seduces and corrupts even those who are hopelessly idealistic, the players could just as easily be in show business or any other field of endeavor. When Astronaut Ted Bond returns a national hero from a two-year space mission, the Governor of Maryland is watching the proceedings on TV with his political consultant. They are worried that the Governor is far down in the polls as a result of a recent sexual harassment suit and in need of a miracle to ensure his re-election. If Ted Bond could be persuaded to run on the Governor’s ticket for the U.S. Senate, they’d win in a walk. Though Ted is convinced to run he will only do so if he can run as an Independent – which is not what the Governor had in mind. After visiting Ted with a bit of advice and a proposition he can’t take lightly, Ted begins his foray into the seductive world of politics.
