Set in the mid-70’s, six Marine aviator wives gather in the “ready room” at the Marine Corps Air Station having been summoned in the middle of the night because ONE of their husbands’ planes has crashed. They support each other through the night while each desperately hopes that her husband isn’t the pilot not coming home. One challenges them with the question: "Who do you hope it is?" The characters are presented at the moment of their most extreme emotional exposure and the situation reveals their secrets and fears while touching all of the war issues we are still facing today.
Silent Heroes is about the brave, military spouses who hold their families and each other together while their loved ones train, deploy and are sent off to war. It’s about sacrifice, race relations, women’s rights, war, peace, family, infidelity, abuse, desperate loneliness and a tenuous social structure that enables military wives to cope with the constant fear that their husbands’ lives and their futures could end violently and suddenly.
