The Open Fist Theatre Company presents Papa, written by John DeGroot, directed by Martha Demson. Set in Ernest Hemingway’s home in Cuba over a long afternoon into evening, Papa is a searing glimpse into the life of the 20th-century literary giant.
A provocative portrait of a turbulent man, Papa takes us far beyond the myth of the legendary writer. Papa is based on anecdotes culled from more than four years of interviews with many of those who knew him best, among them Key West’s Toby Bruce, Papa’s sidekick and drinking partner for some 25 years, Gregorio Fuentes, a model for The Old Man and the Sea’s Santiago and Madelaine “Sunny” Hemingway Miller, Papa’s “favorite kid sister.”
