About the Show

The Road Theatre presents Cuts, a world premiere theatrical event written by eight members of the Dog Ear Playwright’s Collective. Commisioned by the Road, these unique takes on duplicity are directed and performed by the Road company. The double edge of deceit and a pair of scissors lie at the heart of their thought-provoking and diverse stories:

An It by Jaqueline Wright
Kept in Captivity, It lives only through the heartbeats of others. As It’s captors attempt to decipher It’s bizarre language, the lovely Janet comes to visit, igniting in It a forgotten need for human love and friendship. Can It be more than just an It?

Biblio by Wayne Liebman
Librarian wannabe, Glynda, is daddy’s little girl. But daddy’s a real spook – cranking out code for a secret government agency. Daddy’s mistress only confuses things – she’s way too blond and packing a wicked syringe. Really, it’s all a girl can do to keep her dress on straight.

Blue by Bryan Davison
A young hematologist sets out to bring a cure to the “Blue People” of Appalachian Kentucky. But when his enzyme cure works, the young woman he cures vanishes. Has he given her the strength to search for a better life, or created a murderous rage in the young man who loved her?

Constructing Vegas by Leon Martell
It’s “Construction and Choreography” versus “Maid Service” as two sisters fight over “the man with no collar bone.” What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas… in fact, it can’t get out, no matter how much it wants to.

Fabric by Robert Fieldsteel
With a pair of scissors and an eye for fashion, Max and Rachel infiltrate the splendor and high fashion of the Ascot Races. Set in the early part of the 20th century, their con brings them success in the garment industry. But, in the end, who’s conning whom?

Finish & Trim by Joy Gregory
Sparse poetry scores the inner lives of three young women locked in the burning Triangle Shirtwaist Factory as they reflect on the sensual deatils of their ordinary lives.

Nomenclature by Kathy Hickman
One gardener’s weed is another gardener’s flower.

Soar by Jennifer Maisel
An adolescent’s rebelliousness turns to tragedy. Now a mother cannot sleep. Can the late night arguments with the daughter who deceived her finally give her the strength to cut the ties to her debilitating grief?
